Katie Rexrode is an award-winning writer with more than 20 years in the communications and marketing field. Her goal has always been to use her strengths to help people tell their stories and provide information that can make a positive impact on her audience.
A graduate of Michigan State University’s highly regarded journalism school, she bleeds green. In her time as a reporter and editor at The State News she covered concerts and riots, led the editorial board and once defied the county prosecutor, causing a buzz on campus. As an added bonus, she met her future husband (sports columnist Joe Rexrode) but the two didn’t date until well after graduation.
She graduated college and went on to write an entertainment column at The Oakland Press called “The Bar Review” where she got to visit all the top places around Oakland County, Michigan. From there she moved to South Carolina to cover politics, including the debate over the Confederate Flag on the capitol dome and the 2000 presidential election, meeting all the GOP candidates. She was then wooed back to Michigan to cover cops and courts for the Lansing State Journal. During her time at the LSJ, she covered 56 homicides and uncovered a juvenile prostitution ring plaguing the city.
Fast-forward a couple years, a wedding and a new baby and Katie jumped from media to corporate America, joining the fast-growing franchise moving company Two Men and a Truck in their marketing department.
There she had the opportunity to dig in and lead company communication, launch marketing and sales strategy and support franchisees as they grew their businesses. Along with the Michigan franchisees, Katie developed the Movers for Moms charity program, which collected items for moms in need and has since grown to be a national program.
Next, she headed to Jackson National Life Insurance Company, the largest annuity provider in the United States. A subsidiary of Prudential UK, Katie worked to support the C-suite as well as head up the internal communications team. Working closely with HR, legal and M&A, Katie led the communications on the closing of a $5 billion subsidiary as well as developing all messaging for clients.
After a transfer to Nashville, she joined the corporate office at WIN Home Inspection – a national home inspection franchise company — as director of marketing and communications. She redesigned the website, upgraded the intranet, developed social media guidelines and partnered with third-party vendors to provide needed support to business owners as they continue to market the WIN brand.
Katie now spends her day as a consultant and a writer while carting her three kids around to their many, many activities. She loves going to the movies with her hubs, anything pop culture, her girlfriends, an 88-degree day and babies; her very best day is sitting at the beach, playing DJ and watching her kids play in the water with their Dad.
