2019 in Review: A Few of Our Favorite Things

2019 Year in Review

We’re winding down the year with a few of our favorite things — as decided by you! Here’s a look back at 2019 with our most popular podcasts, blogs, and videos:

Top Podcast of 2019: How to Build Yourself as a Thought Leader

man and woman in superhero capesIn August, we launched the mConnexions Marketing Minute, a weekly podcast offering marketing insights, hosted by our Principal Strategist, Julie Holton. As we flex our own thought leadership muscle with our podcast, it’s not lost on us that our most listened to episode in 2019 is about thought leadership.

“Think of the best speaker you’ve ever heard. The best podcaster. The best newscaster. The best friend who’s just a wealth of knowledge. They all have one thing in common: their position as a thought leader. You can have that expertise and authority. When done right, thought leadership can build you personally and strengthen your brand, but you must do it strategically to do it successfully… So how do you get it?”

Top Blog of 2019: Are You Posting Enough On Social Media? How Much is Too Much?

Boy giving thumbs upThe number of likes, comments, and shares you get on social media is determined not just by what you post, but also by how often you post. It’s important to know your audience as well as the social media algorithms and how they work, to get your message in front of your audience.

“Businesses need to find the sweet spot with their social audience: what is the number of times they can post per day to stick in news feeds and minds of their followers without becoming a spammy and annoying? (And unfollowed!)”

In this most-read blog from 2019, we take a look at the top five social media platforms and analyze the appropriate posting frequency strategies for each.

Top Video of 2019: Facebook Live Q&A: Marketing & Business Operations

row of rubber ducksIf you feel like you’re herding cats or struggling to keep your ducks in a row, you’re not alone! We know that it takes a lot of work to keep your marketing, sales, and business operations in alignment — so Julie Holton and Stephanie Barnhill talked about it in a live question and answer session on Facebook. Business owners, founders, entrepreneurs, and marketing pros watched this mConnexions video more than any other in 2019.

“…let’s start by talking about some of the most common issues that entrepreneurs have. What are some of those common problems?”

“That’s a good question because there are a lot of people out there who are really skilled in their craft, in their talent. They’ve got a great idea for a business or maybe they’ve already started and they’re doing the work that they want to do that they are passionate about. But taking that and creating a business out of it can really be overwhelming for a lot of people. We keep using the term ducks in a row, but it’s true, there are so many ducks it’s like herding cats—”

“It has kind-of become a joke around here, but yet it’s true! You have to have everything lined up just so — and when you’re over here and the ducks you need are over there, you have to get organized!”

“Exactly! What are those ducks? What should they be? There’s so many parts to operating a company, to operating a business and, from what we hear, this very overwhelming for a lot of people. When it comes to different pieces of the business, internal protocol and procedures, or sales efforts or marketing efforts or hiring and HR. There are so many different pieces to how a business operates.”
